WMS software: what it is and when you need it
A warehouse management system drives your warehouse process: from inbound and location management to picking, packing and shipping.

WMS stands for warehouse management system: software that not only tracks your stock but also decides how work flows through your warehouse. Where should an incoming pallet go? In what order does a picker walk their orders? Which shipment goes to which carrier? Those are WMS questions.
MrStock is a cloud WMS for webshops and fulfilment companies. You need no server and no months-long implementation: connect your sales channels, set up your warehouse locations and start scanning.
What does a WMS actually do?
A WMS manages the four stages every item passes through. Inbound: receiving goods, checking them and putting them on a location. Storage: knowing what sits where and counting stock without stopping the warehouse. Outbound: bundling orders into pick lists, collecting them along the shortest route and verifying by scanning. Shipping: packing, labelling and handing over to the carrier. Anything that goes wrong in between (wrong item, wrong location, wrong quantity) a WMS catches with a scan.
When do you move to a WMS?
Most warehouses switch at the point where walking around costs more than the system does. Familiar signs: pickers know where things are from memory (and new staff therefore do not), stock discrepancies only surface at the annual count, or peak days structurally cost overtime. A WMS makes the process transferable, so you can scale up with temporary staff without quality dropping.
Cloud WMS versus on-premise
Traditional WMS packages run on a server in your own warehouse and require an implementation project, per-user licences and maintenance. A cloud WMS like MrStock runs in the browser and on your phone or handheld scanner, updates itself and charges by order volume rather than per user. You start small and scale up without a migration.

Frequently asked questions
- What does WMS mean?
- WMS stands for warehouse management system: software that drives the processes in a warehouse, from receiving goods to shipping orders. It manages not only quantities but also locations, tasks and the order in which work is carried out.
- What does WMS software cost?
- It varies widely. MrStock starts at € 99 per month for 400 orders with every feature and integration included; the fulfilment plans start at € 199 per month for 600 orders. All our plans and their order volumes are on the pricing page.
- Do I need a WMS or is stock control enough?
- If you mainly want to know how much of something you have, stock control is enough. As soon as searching, walking and checking in your warehouse costs real time, or picking mistakes start costing you customers, a WMS pays for itself.
